CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says that officials "effectively ended" veteran homelessness in the city.
Nutter made the announcement Thursday, alongside US Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
It's part of President Obama's nationwide push to combat veteran homelessness.
Obama issued a challenge to all US mayors help all veterans in need, by the end of 2015.
The mayor says Philadelphia accomplished its goal by ensuring veterans had access to housing and services.
