PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- There's a new effort to prevent any more accidental shootings involving children in the city of Philadelphia.
In June we told you about a 4-year-old girl who found her mother's boyfriend's gun in a closet, and accidentally shot and killed herself in North Philadelphia.
Both adults are facing charges.
That case and other similar tragedies inspired authorities to give out free gun locks.
"It will prevent a small child from getting mom's boyfriends' gun and shooting his cousin's brains out," said Philadelphia DA Seth Williams.
Officials announced the gun-lock giveaway at Temple University Hospital.
It is part of a recent city law requiring safe storage of guns in homes where children live.
Gun locks will be given out for free, no questions asked, at:
