2 arrested after shots fired at Philadelphia police during pursuit

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Two men are in custody after Philadelphia police officers were shot at during a vehicle pursuit Friday night.

According to authorities, officers in an unmarked vehicle spotted a car driving the wrong way down a one-way street. The vehicle then ran a stop sign on the 5400 block of Morse Street before speeding off.

As officers began their pursuit, police say the passenger, identified as 30-year-old Nathaniel Smith, opened fire on them.

The chase ended when the car stopped and both Smith and the driver, 35-year-old Khalil Flowers, fled on foot. They were quickly apprehended.

A search of the vehicle uncovered packaged drugs, including crack cocaine and marijuana, as well as a 9mm handgun and spent shell casings.

Smith is being held on more than $1 million bail, while Flowers is being held on $500,000 bail.

A third suspect remains at large.

No injuries were reported.
