NEW JERSEY (WPVI) -- Nine New Jersey lottery players cashed in with big secondary prizes on Wednesday night as the Powerball jackpot reached $1.7 billion, the third highest in U.S. history.

The numbers drawn on Wednesday were 3, 16, 29, 61, 69 and the Power Ball was 22. The Multiplier was 2.

No player matched all five white balls and the gold Powerball; however, eight NJ players matched four white balls, each winning $50,000.

One player matched four white balls, the Power Ball, and the multiplier to win $100,000.

There were also $1 million-winning tickets sold in Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota and Ohio.

On Monday, two players won $1 million.

The million-dollar tickets were sold in Milford and Clifton, New Jersey.

Since May 31, 1.6 million New Jersey residents have won prizes. However, there have been 41 straight drawings without a big winner.

The next drawing is Saturday, making it now the longest run in game history.

Powerball's terrible odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to generate big jackpots, with prizes becoming ever larger as they repeatedly roll over when no one wins. Lottery officials note that the odds are far better for the game's many smaller prizes. There are three drawings each week.

Powerball tickets are $2 each. All participants must be 18 years old or older.
