PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers final home season concert takes you on a journey, celebrating the history and legacy of the company.
"It's called 'Echo and Flame: Feng Huang Awakens,'" says Kun-Yang Lin, Founder and Artistic Director of the Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers.
"This is your last opportunity to see the ensemble," says Katie Moore-Derkits, Executive Director of the Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers.
"So Feng Huang in Chinese actually is eastern phoenix," says Lin. "It's different than a western phoenix, because eastern phoenix never die. But eastern phoenix only sleep, so we waiting for Feng Huang to awake."
"The concert is focused on resilience and rebirth," says Moore-Derkits.
Lin founded KYL/D in 1998 in New York City and moved the company to Philadelphia in 2008.
"People found that the way I move, the way I construct work, has something people interested in. They found it's a little bit different," says Lin.
"There's a lot of Eastern-inspired influences mixed with contemporary dance," says Moore-Derkits.
She says there's also a "social consciousness" to Lin's work.
Lin says most of his work is trying to find "common ground."
The eight dancers will perform five works, including two world premieres.
"Kun-Yang has choreographed over 100 pieces of contemporary dance," says Moore-Derkits.
His 101st work is called 'Spring 101.' Another one of his pieces is a solo work titled 'My Home?'
The final world premiere is called 'Fire Ritual Dance.'
"The spirit of the company will live on through the artists," she says. "Kun-Yang is performing on stage for the first time in over six years."
"I feel very proud of what we have accomplished here," says Lin. "Come and join us to celebrate."
