WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- "Mrs. Doubtfire" is bringing the laughs in the new musical comedy coming to The Playhouse on Rodney Square in Wilmington, Delaware.

"I'm playing Daniel Hillard, who transforms into Mrs. Doubtfire," says actor Craig Allen Smith. "It's a lot of fun."

The show starts with Daniel getting fired from work, exposing marital problems he's been ignoring.

"He ends up getting a divorce from his wife and he just wants to be with his kids," says Smith.

Actor Melissa Campbell plays his wife, turned ex, Miranda.

"She's the mother of three children with Daniel," says Campbell. "She is a very reasonable and responsible woman."

Campbell says Miranda is also "learning how to find love" after divorce.

In a desperate attempt to spend time with his kids, he asks his brother, and his brother's husband, for help to pose as a nanny. Daniel's brother, Frank, is played by actor Brian Kalinowski.

"He looks to Frank and Andre to make him a woman," says Kalinowski. "He's the makeup person and Andre is the hair stylist."

"You actually see Daniel become Mrs. Doubtfire," says Smith.

"With the wig and the mask and the bodysuit," says Kalinowski. "It's magic, but it's done right in front of you."

"She becomes like this motherly figure to Miranda and becomes someone that she can really lean on and confide in," says Campbell.

"He's able to learn from that experience," says Smith.

Songs help tell the story.

"There's some lovely ballads," says Smith. "Also, showstopping numbers, like 'Easy Peasy,' where Mrs. Doubtfire is trying to cook dinner for the kids and is learning how to cook."

"It's a true musical comedy," says Kalinowski.

And there are some classic lines from the film.

"The whole time, the whole time," says Campbell.

"The overarching theme is love," says Smith. "The lengths that people can go to for the people that they love."

"As long as there is love in your life, then there's a potential for happiness," says Campbell.

"Mrs. Doubtfire" runs September 26 - 28 at the Playhouse on Rodney Square in Wilmington, Delaware.
