MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (WPVI) -- A school bus driver died after he was struck by another bus on Tuesday afternoon in Maple Shade, New Jersey.
It happened around 3:30 p.m. in a bus garage at Maple Shade High School.
Police identified the victim as 85-year-old Jack Hohwald, a Maple Shade resident.
The driver of the striking bus remained at the scene, police said. No charges have been filed so far.
"It is with a heavy heart that I share some very sad news with you. One of our beloved staff members has tragically passed away in an accident in our bus garage," Superintendent Beth Norcia said in a statement on Tuesday.
Police say the victim was outside of his bus when he was hit by another district driver.
The schools were closed on Wednesday for students.
"This will allow our school community to process this loss and support one another. We understand that such news can be profoundly upsetting and we are committed to providing the support needed during this time," Norcia said.
Burlington County Crisis Response Team and counselors will be available for staff and students for the rest of the week.
