Suspect sought for shooting at Walmart in Delaware County surrenders
DARBY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPVI) -- The suspect wanted for a shooting that injured a Walmart employee in Delaware County has surrendered to police.
Officials say 21-year-old Armani Waite fled after the shooting on Friday, but left behind some key evidence.
"We're able to announce Mr. Waite is in custody and the public is safe," District Attorney Tanner Rouse said at a news conference on Monday.
Rouse said Waite left behind his keys and his car after the shooting.
Waite is accused of pulling out a gun during a dispute with another customer inside the Walmart on North MacDade Boulevard in Darby Township.
A Walmart employee, who was an innocent bystander, was shot in the leg.
"Seven-thirty on Friday night at a Walmart self checkout. It is bumping there, and Mr. Waite simply opens fire," Rouse said.
Waite is charged with attempted murder, four counts of aggravated assault, and 12 counts of recklessly endangering another person.
Court documents also show that Waite is charged with carrying a firearm without a license.
"It is a remarkable act of violence, and it is really extraordinary that more people were not hurt by this," Rouse said. "It was incredibly reckless."
The Walmart worker who was shot is expected to be okay.
The customer who got into the dispute with Waite is not facing any charges.
