PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested following a shooting over the weekend that left a man dead and a child injured.
Lonzell McDaniel, 20, was charged with a shooting on the 1900 block of West Hunting Park Avenue in the Tioga-Nicetown section of Philadelphia.
That incident started as a birthday party. An argument ensued, someone opened fire, and a 26-year-old man was killed.
McDaniel is accused of randomly opening fire at that scene a short time later and killing a 29-year-old man and injuring a seven-year-old.
The initial gunman remains on the loose.
It was one of multiple shootings since Thursday that have left at least 20 people shot.
Commissioner Kevin Bethel says overall crime trends are certainly moving in the right direction, but the worst thing his department can do is become content with those trends.
"If we don't keep pushing and aspiring to a better city, if we don't keep pushing to say, 'we can continue to make this a safe city,' as the mayor has repeatedly said, then shame on us," said Bethel.
The homicide rate in 2024 was the lowest in many years in Philadelphia, and the homicide rate in 2025 is down 15% from this time last year.
