Average Philadelphia apartment size is shrinking, according to new report

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The average apartment size in Philadelphia appears to be shrinking.

A new report from apartment blog "RentCafe" ranked Philadelphia 12th out of 100 U.S. cities for the smallest new apartments.

It also found that units built in the city within the last decade spanned an average of 747 square feet, which is 163 fewer square feet than the national average.

RentCafe says that while new three-bedroom apartments actually grew by 93 square feet, studios, one- and two-bedroom units shrank by about 100 square feet compared to the last decade.

Platform analysts pointed to high demand for single-person housing as a cause.
