Backpacks full of school supplies get distributed to honor the life of Julissa Berdeja

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Today, the Berdeja family honored the life of a lost loved one, as they do each day.

Julissa passed away last year at 21-years-old.

Because of her passion for helping others, they held a back-to-school drive, reminding people of how she lived.

It was all held at the boutique dedicated to her passion as an esthetician: JB Flawliss x Pink Sugar.

" Julissa did work in a school. She worked with special needs kids and she loved children all the around. So... we thought, 'what better way than to give back to children?'....We got over 250 backpacks filled with school supplies from books to crayons, colored pencils, rulers," said Xavier Berdeja, Julissa's brother.

"Grief is the price that we pay for love. We live that every day. But seeing how loved Julissa is, that honestly means a lot to our family," he continued.
