Pa. father walks marathon carrying 65 pounds for cystic fibrosis
NORRISTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- "We kind of get to take these weights off and put them down," said Kevin Cybularz. "But these kids carry a weight that they can't take off."
14 years ago, the devastating loss of twin boys after 20 weeks of pregnancy led to more shocking news. Genetic testing revealed that Cybularz and his wife were carriers of cystic fibrosis (CF).
The couple from Collegeville went on to have three more boys. Their youngest, 3-year-old Ryan, was diagnosed with CF shortly after birth.
Cybularz founded 'Ryan's Renegades,' a fundraising team that seeks to complete hard challenges.
Over the weekend, they completed a marathon-length ruck, 26.2 miles, in which Cybularz carried 65 pounds on his back.
The number 65 has long been a symbol in the CF community since a young boy once mistakenly said he had '65 roses' instead of 'cystic fibrosis.'
The team has raised thousands and is still accepting donations. They typically support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation but plan to support The Boomer Esiason Foundation this time.
