Beehive removed from South Philadelphia sewer

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The source of some underground buzz in South Philadelphia is getting a new home.

A beekeeper carefully removed a beehive on Tuesday that had formed in the sewer on the 2300 block of Lambert Street.

Some residents even got a taste of fresh sewer honey!

Action News first told you about the sewer hive last month.

Residents say the bees would swarm parked cars to the point where they had to block off an entire parking spot.

That's when they got Mark Berman involved. He's a beekeeper who rigged up a device to slowly convince the bees to leave their home in the sewer so they can be moved to a more suitable location.

Berman, who runs Anna Bees Honey, is taking the hive to his apiary about a half mile away where he will harvest the sewer honey.
