'Gone in 60 seconds': Police warn residents about thefts targeting high-performance vehicles

BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police in Bucks County are warning residents about a rise in thefts targeting high-performance vehicles, especially Dodge Chargers and Challengers.

The thieves are also going after some popular mainstream models from Honda, like the Accord, Civic and CR-V.

Bensalem Police put out this surveillance video showing how quickly thieves were able to steal a Charger from a driveway around 5 a.m. Saturday.

It's literally gone in 60 seconds.

They did it quietly and efficiently, without setting off the alarm.

In the video, you can see the thieves rolling the car down the driveway in neutral to not start up the loud engine near the home.

Bensalem Police say car thieves are often using relay devices that capture key fob signals from inside homes to unlock and start cars without the actual key.

Police recommend that people who have "push-to-start" vehicles keep the key fobs away from doors, store them in RFID blocking or Faraday pouches, use steering wheel locks and park in garages, if possible.
