Early morning fire closes Boyertown Elementary School in Berks County

BOYERTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- An early morning fire has closed an elementary school in Boyertown on Monday.

The blaze broke out in one of the classrooms around 2 a.m. at Boyertown Elementary School in the 600 block of 2nd Street in Berks County.

Heavy smoke spread throughout the building but crews were able to contain the fire.

There has been no word on how the fire started or if there are any injuries.

Students and staff will follow a flexible instructional day.
