Woman shot by police after stabbing two people in Times Square, NYPD says

NEW YORK -- One person was shot and killed during an officer-involved shooting in Times Square on Monday afternoon, the NYPD said.

Police fired shots during a reported knifepoint robbery just before 4:30 p.m. between Seventh Avenue West and 42nd and 43rd Streets, police said.

Police sources said a woman who appeared to be emotionally disturbed was threatening people with two knives.

Police said the woman stabbed two people, a man and a woman, before police arrived.

Then the woman fled north toward the NYPD substation where police confronted her, police said.

Police say the woman refused to put the knives down when police approached her.

The woman who was shot and the two victims who were stabbed were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The woman who was shot and the woman who was stabbed later died, police sources told ABC News.

Police are closing traffic from West 42nd street to West 47th Street as the investigation continues.
