Brauhaus Schmitz hosts a World Cup Final watch party on South Street

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- As the FIFA World Cup Final commenced in East Rutherford, nearby fans in Philadelphia celebrated at their local German Bierhall.

Brauhaus Schmitz has been showcasing all World Cup Finals since occupying a space on South Street for the past 17 years.

This is their fourth street closure event this Summer, with a month's worth of hard work culminating today.

"Soccer is the biggest sport in the world, and just having that in Philadelphia has been just an awesome experience...We're happy to have hosted the tens of thousands of people..this month and ready to have the grand finale today," said Doug Hager, owner of Brauhaust Schmitz.

"It's a testament to say...what we're doing is meaningful. Just watching people from all different cultures and countries coming together and celebrating together...It's a beautiful thing to see," said Hager.
