Swimmers urged to watch out for 'purple meanie' jellyfish at Jersey Shore
Some of the markings resemble a poison ivy rash

MANASQUAN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A painful pest invaded beaches at the Jersey Shore and Delaware this summer.
A type of Jellyfish, known as the mauve stinger or "purple meany," has been moving along the Jersey Shore, and stinging multiple swimmers.
Among those affected were a group of children, who were stung over the weekend, while swimming off Manasquan.
Some of the markings resemble a poison ivy rash.
Officials say the stinger is native to these waters but usually remains well offshore.
