Car crashes into medical office in Burlington County

DELRAN, N.J. (WPVI) -- First responders removed a vehicle from the front of the Virtua Health Physical Therapy and Rehab center in Delran, Burlington County after it crashed through the building's glass entrance.

It happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, with multiple people inside the facility at the time of the crash.

Delran Fire Chief Joseph Cunningham said crews were dispatched shortly after the incident.

"I had two staff workers trapped behind a desk," Cunningham said. "We were able to self-extricate them and they were checked out and transported to the local hospital by EMS."

Fire officials said the two staff members are expected to be okay. The driver was not injured and remained at the scene.

Cunningham described the aftermath inside the building.

"It's glass all over the receptionist desk," he said. "Chairs where patients would normally be sitting were pushed out of the way with one partially under the car."

The vehicle came within feet of crashing into a nearby Five Guys restaurant. Owner John Chung expressed relief that no one was hurt.

"Obviously it's alarming from first glance," Chung said. "The most important thing is it seems like the driver and employees are fine. At the end of the day, it's not about a business. Be grateful for each day we have."

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and whether the driver may face any charges.
