City of Camden celebrates grand opening of sports complex

CAMDEN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A celebration was held in Camden, New Jersey on Monday for the grand opening of the Mayor Francisco "Frank" Moran Sports Complex.

It's at the newly renovated Von Nieda Park in the Cramer Hill section of Camden.

The state-of-the art sports complex is named after the former mayor of Camden.

"Von Nieda Park is a beloved community space, and this investment helps ensure that the park is enjoyable and accessible for the Cramer Hill community for years to come," said Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Parks Department.

"It is only fitting that the sports complex bares Mayor Moran's name. Not only did he grow up in Cramer Hill, but he played a crucial role in the revitalization of parks throughout Camden County during his many years as Parks Director."

Von Nieda Park received a complete overhaul that included improvements to the stormwater system, addition of a natural grass baseball field, a new parking lot and sidewalks.

The $4.1 million project also included new irrigated grass soccer and football fields, rehabilitated little league fields, dugouts, and benches, and a covered picnic area with fencing.
