Construction begins on Sheetz in Limerick Twp., marking chain's 1st store in greater Philly area

LIMERICK TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- The statewide battle between Wawa and Sheetz is becoming a head-to-head battle in Montgomery County.

Construction has started on a new Sheetz store in Limerick Township.

This would be the chain's first store in the greater Philadelphia area.

An armistice of sorts between Sheetz and Wawa had previously meant Sheetz only competes outside of this area, also known as Wawa territory.

The store is at the busy intersection of Ridge Pike and Swamp Pike, just down the street from an existing Wawa.

A grand opening date has not been announced.
