PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A driver is in custody after a deadly hit-and-run crash in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.
Police say it was a determined citizen detective who helped them identify the driver.
According to investigators, a man was riding his bicycle in the area of Lehigh and Aramingo avenues when he was hit by a vehicle just after 8 p.m. Sunday night.
A witness tried to help the bicyclist, then followed the car that left the scene of the crash.
"The witness did track that vehicle that he saw leaving the scene and was able to get a plate on that vehicle and tracked it to the area of Aramingo and Cambria inside the laundromat there," said Captain Timothy Stephan. "He called 911 from that location."
A 21-year-old driver was taken into custody for questioning at that laundromat.
The bicyclist died at the hospital.
He has not yet been identified.
The crash remains under investigation.
