Philadelphia is the birthplace of the Navy and Marines, so it is only fitting that both branches celebrate their birthdays here.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Events celebrating the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps' 250th birthday continue this week in Philadelphia.
More than 7,000 people took part in a patriotic parade down Market Street, which was broadcast on 6abc on Monday.
Colorful floats and marching bands helped salute those who serve in the military.
Philadelphia is the birthplace of the Navy and Marines, so it is only fitting that both branches celebrate their birthdays here.

The events culminate with a fireworks show over the Delaware River Wednesday night, and a sendoff for the ships on Thursday.
