Kamala Harris makes stop in Old City before book tour event

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Former vice president and presidential nominee Kamala Harris brought her book tour to North Philadelphia on Thursday.

Harris kicked off her speaking engagements in New York City on Wednesday night before appearing at The Met Philadelphia on Broad Street at 7 p.m., where she spoke in conversation with Philadelphia's own Dawn Staley.

Earlier in the day, Harris made a stop at Penzeys Spices in Old City. She said she was picking up gifts for her family, who enjoy spending time in the kitchen.

Her book, 107 Days, hit stores earlier this week. It chronicles her surprise and shortened 2024 presidential campaign.

Harris said she wrote the book so her voice is a part of really giving people a sense of what that was like as the moment goes down in history.

The memoir includes reflections on her consideration of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as a potential running mate-whom she ultimately did not choose. Harris said she and Shapiro remain in touch and praised him as one of the Democratic Party's strong leaders.

"When I look out in the country and I look at the various leaders-be they Governor Shapiro and so many other governors, mayors, attorneys general-we've got a lot of good people out there, and I think we should focus on that and this current moment," she said.
