Major freight train derailment in Bensalem, Bucks County

BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- A freight train has derailed in Bensalem, Bucks County, and people living nearby are being urged to shelter in place.

It happened around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday between Street Road and the Neshaminy Falls train station.

Video from Chopper 6 showed at least 10 cars derailed.

Action News has learned hazmat teams have been called out as there are reportedly two cars containing hazardous material.

Bensalem police say they are currently assessing the contents of the train cars.

In the meantime, residents in the area are urged to shelter in place until there is an update.

People are also asked to avoid the area.

There was no immediate word on any injuries.

SEPTA said it does not utilize these tracks, but service has been suspended on the West Trenton Line, which operates nearby.
