Regional Rail service restored after SEPTA train derailment in North Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Service was restored Wednesday afternoon on SEPTA's Regional Rail after an overnight train derailment in North Philadelphia.
Full service was restored at 3 p.m. to the Manayunk/Norristown, Fox Chase and Chestnut Hill East lines, as well as several other stations on lines that were cut back.
SEPTA crews have been performing track repairs following the derailment at the 16th Street Interlocking, which is a critical chokepoint on the Regional Rail system.
No injuries were reported among the 47 passengers and three crew members who were on the train when the derailment occurred, according to officials.
An investigation into the cause of the derailment is ongoing.
This is the second derailment in the Philadelphia region this week after more than a dozen train cars left the tracks after a freight train derailment on Tuesday afternoon in Bensalem, Bucks County.
That crash happened around 2:15 p.m. between Street Road and the Neshaminy Falls train station, and forced evacuation and shelter-in-place orders. Residents have since been allowed to return home.
