Co-Owner Alfitri Sonie of D'Jakarta Cafe runs the restaurant with her mother and brother, sharing dishes from their hometown of Jakarta.

Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, and the family-run business is sharing its culture through each dish, all from Alfirtri's mother's recipes.

They offer popular street food, chicken satay, Alfitiri says, you'll find everywhere in Indonesia.

They were also the first to bring popular street-food dessert ropang to Philadelphia, which is toasted bread layered with butter, Nutella and coconut spread, and garnished with cheese.

Alfitri came to Philadelphia 25 years ago with her family and opened D'Jakarta Cafe in 2018, drawing on prior experience working in her mother's restaurant in Jakarta.

The restaurant is filled with pictures, murals, and items that remind them of home. The family says they look forward to sharing Indonesian culture and traditions with Philadelphia.

The Penn Museum's completely reimagined Native North America gallery brings together ancient artifacts and contemporary works across four geographic regions, starting with the Lenni Lenape, who lived and thrived here in our region.

The exhibit centers Native voices and lived histories. The museum partnered with members of the native communities, who served as cultural curators, helping to tell their own stories.

Each section traces moments of rupture following European contact, alongside stories of resilience and survival.

From ceremonial objects to interactive displays and Native languages featured first, the gallery emphasizes that these communities are still here and have been since before the nation was born.

Opera Philadelphia Presents "The Black Clown" May 14 - 17 at the Miller Theater

"The Black Clown," adapted from Langston Hughes' poem of the same name, is full of music and meaning.

"A 75-minute blaze through 300 years of American history," says Davóne Tines, Co-Creator and Singer in "The Black Clown." "It's the Black perspective within America, but told with a lot of brashness, joy and also honesty about this country."

Tines stars in the title role and collaborated with composer, Michael Schachter, and director, Zack Winokur, to bring Hughes' poem to life.

There are an additional 12 performers in the ensemble.

Jazz, blues and gospel are woven into the opera.

Staying true to Hughes' 1931 poem, his words are unchanged for the stage.

"Even though the poem is timeless, it is of its time, and there are certain ways of talking about racial strife that are complicated, but it's important for us to look at the truth of that time in order to understand our past, as we imagine the future," says Tines.

"The Black Clown" runs May 14 - 17 at the Miller Theater.

*A Note from Opera Philadelphia:
This production contains racial slurs and stylized representations of violence, particularly related to slavery, as well as haze, simulated smoking, and bright flashing lights.
