UNIVERSITY CITY (WPVI) -- At the newly-opened Gather Food Hall, the mission is in the name, creating the go-to place for people to gather, with food as the connector.
The new food hall is located inside the old Bulletin Building, right beside 30th Street Station.
There is the Bulletin Bar, where you can grab a drink and order from any of the 5 food stalls.
Mucho Peru is from a husband and wife team serving Peruvian comfort food.
El Mictlan is a contemporary Mexican taco bar, highlighting the flavors of Mexico's West Coast.
Federal Donuts & Chicken has an outpost here.
There's a fast casual healthy Indian concept called Bowl'd Masala and Cambodian flavors from a chef who launched her Sahbayy Food at the Southeast Asian Market in FDR Park and became famous for her lemongrass cheesesteak.
For Federal Donuts & Chicken CEO, Jeff Benjamin, Gather is the realization of a years-long dream, to give emerging chefs a platform to grow their business.
For Mucho Peru and Sahbyy Food, the food hall is their first brick and mortar.
They got grants from the city to help cover their startup costs and they'll get training and mentorship from the Federal Donuts & Chicken team and from New York City Chef Akhtar Nawab and his team. Nawab is a veteran of the food hall scene; his company, Hospitality HQ, is managing Gather Food Hall.
Gather is giving back to the community as well through a program called Believe in Students-creating low cost options for all college students and free meals for students in need.
The hall has a lounge where you can work and TVs to catch a game.
