High-rise fire in Philadelphia's Queen Village displaces residents amid high heat conditions

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Dozens of older adults in Philadelphia's Queen Village neighborhood have been forced out of their apartment building and onto the streets amid dangerous heat conditions in the city.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening on the 4th floor of the Courtyard Apartments at Riverview, along the 1000 block of South 4th Street.

That's a high-rise for seniors but, thankfully, no one was hurt.

Now, officials are trying to help displaced residents stay cool during this extreme heat.

An air-conditioned SEPTA bus was brought in to give them a break from the heat.

A shelter has also been set up at Kensington CAPA, which is currently housing about 60 people.

Action News has been told this is a recurring headache for neighbors in this high-rise.

Action News covered the story in June when a similar situation happened after the tower lost power due to a fire.

This marks the second time a fire has forced neighbors out of their homes in two months.

The investigation is ongoing.
