ICE looking to open new detention facility in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia could be one of four cities to get an ICE detention center.

ABC News has learned Immigration and Customs Enforcement is currently looking for contractors.

ICE wants turn-key existing facilities that would be ready to begin housing detainees within 30 days after a contract is awarded.

The agency is looking for space in Philadelphia that will hold 1,800 beds and is located no more than 50 miles from a local airport.

Action News has reached out to city officials for comment and are awaiting a response.
