PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- As prosecutors continue to lay the groundwork for a case against the man accused of killing Kada Scott, her family is left to pick up the pieces.
Tuesday would have been Scott's 24th birthday. Her family is marking the day by launching a foundation in her honor.
It happens as the family is still trying to make sense of a tragedy.
"In the middle of the night, thinking about her. Yeah, it's been tough," said Kevin Scott, Kada's father. "To be honest, I'm not good. My daughter's not here anymore."
Kevin Scott misses his daughter every day, but especially on what would have been her birthday: November 18.
"Coincidentally, she shares the same birthday as her mom, Kim, so definitely tough," said Scott.
Still, Kada's family created what could be considered a gift for her birthday: a foundation in her name.
"It seemed appropriate to try to launch it on her birthday," said Kevin Scott.

The Kada Scott Foundation will provide scholarships, grants and mentors for girls who have the same type of positivity and ambition Kada had before she became the victim of a heinous crime.
Kada Scott, a Penn State student, went missing on October 4 after going to her job at an assisted living facility. Two weeks later, investigators found her body at an abandoned school.
The story created an outpouring of support from the community.
"For some reason, my daughter's story connected with a lot of people, and I do appreciate that," said Kevin Scott.
Kada Scott's family now wants to grow the legacy their daughter started. It's one based on creativity, ambition and kindness.
Those are the three words written on a hoodie that Kevin Scott designed in honor of his daughter. The hoodie also features a letterman-style "K" representing Kada's name.

Kevin Scott creates each hoodie by hand. Proceeds from the sale of the hoodies go to the Kada Scott Foundation to support the creation of scholarships and grants in areas Kada loved, like fashion and entrepreneurship.
"We want to provide, if possible, what Kada would have deserved if she was still here."
