Labor Day weekend travel rush starts

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- If you are lucky enough to have a long holiday weekend for Labor Day, that rest and relaxation is now within reach.

But you are not alone, as crowds begin to set off for their destinations at Philadelphia International Airport on Thursday.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day of travel this Labor Day weekend with large volumes of also expect Thursday and Monday, according to AAA.

Right now, the number of travelers is higher than last year but the cost to fly is slightly lower than last year.

AAA says the U.S. is winding down a record-breaking summer of travel.

Experts say last-minute flights are hard to find right now but there are still deals on hotels and rental cars.

There will be, once again, a lot of company on the road if you're going to drive.

AAA says most travelers are taking road trips for the holiday weekend.

The good thing is that gas prices are 20 to 40 cents cheaper per gallon than a year ago.

The cost to park at PHL airport has gone up over the last few years

It is now $15 for the economy lot, $28 for garages and $50 if you have a reservation for valet.

As for public transit, SEPTA's Airport Line will run every 30 minutes, as usual. Service cuts begin on Tuesday after the peak of Labor Day travel, which will reduce services to running every hour.
