Man shot by homeowner after allegedly trying to break into home in Philadelphia's Kensington section

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man was shot multiple times by a homeowner after he was allegedly trying to break into a home in Philadelphia's Kensington section.

It happened around 3:40 a.m. on Wednesday in the 1800 block of East Thayer Street .

Police arrived to find a 55-year-old man shot several times in the leg.

They say the man was climbing a ladder in the rear of the home when the 22-year-old homeowner saw him and fired shots.

The 55-year-old continued to climb the ladder, went onto a second-floor roof and forced his way into a home next door.

Police took the man into custody.

He's being held as a prisoner while being treated for his gunshot wounds.

So far, no charges have been filed against homeowner.
