Police said the aircraft had taken off from Ocean City and was en route to Montgomery County Air Park when it went down around 11:30 p.m.
Emergency crews responded about 15 minutes later when Prince George's County Public Safety Communications received an iPhone crash alert indicating a possible crash near the intersection of Routes 50 and 301.
The wreckage was located around 3:45 a.m. Sunday in a wooded area near homes off Scarlett Oak Court.
No injuries were reported on the ground.
