WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Delaware health officials have issued a warning about a measles exposure at the Nemours Children's Hospital emergency department in Wilmington.

The exposure happened on Wednesday. The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) is still working to identify those who may have been exposed.

DPH encourages anyone who may be impacted to check their vaccination status and watch for symptoms for 21 days - until March 11, 2026.

Pregnant people who may have been exposed should go to an emergency room for assessment and treatment, regardless of vaccination status.

Any individual who was exposed and is not fully vaccinated against measles should get a dose of the Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine within 72 hours of exposure.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air and can linger for up to two hours after an infected person leaves.

Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash.

Anyone with questions is urged to call the Office of Infectious Disease Epidemiology during regular business hours at 302-744-4990, or the state's 24-hour reporting line at 1-888-295-5156.
