'Miracle on 34th Street: The Musical' on stage in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- A holiday classic is taking the stage in Wilmington, Delaware.

Based on the movie of the same name, "Miracle on 34th Street" is now a musical, with all of the magic that will melt even the most cynical hearts.

Wesley Scott is the performer stepping into the magical role of Kris Kringle in the classic story as the 1947 film has been magically transformed.

"Meredith Willson is the composer and the writer of this musical," explains Scott. "She wrote 'The Music Man,' so it has that old style, traditional Broadway musical music in it, which so many people love. If you love classic Broadway shows, this is one to add to your list, to come and see. It's a really amazing experience."

You know the story, single mother Doris Walker is a non-believer in Santa Claus and doesn't want her 6-year-old Susan's head filled with romantic notions.

They visit the Macy's in Herald Square, where they run into the real Kris Kringle.

And cue the magic!

"It's really about showing love to those around you," Scott says. "Your neighbors, people that you don't know, reaching out to people in need. That's such an important part of Christmas time, but it is also a wonderful thing to do throughout the year."

Meredith Willson's "Miracle on 34th Street" is here for a quick run at the Playhouse on Rodney Square on December 20 and 21.
