PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Broadway smash hit musical "The Notebook" is about to make its Philadelphia debut at the Academy of Music.
It's based on the Nicholas Sparks book that has sold millions of copies across the world and inspired the blockbuster film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
"Our show honors the iconic love story that it is," says Chloë Cheers, who plays Allie. "The songs just elevate it in such a nice and different way."
If you've ever read the novel or seen the film, then you know this is a tearjerker.
"We sell tissues at the concession stand," says Cheers.
This is the story of the iconic lovebirds, Allie and Noah, who come from two very different worlds.
"There are a lot of obstacles throughout their lives that prevent them from being with each other," says Cheers. "And they continue to fight for their love. It's just this big, enduring, beautiful love story."
The music and lyrics of this Broadway adaptation come courtesy of multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson.
It's something Sparks says has given his story new life.
"Music has this wonderful ability to heighten emotion or to add humor in ways that couldn't be done in the film or couldn't be done in the novel," says Sparks. "It also works on stage and has this wonderful ability to transcend time. I think people will really love it."
"Someone once said the show is like a warm hug," says Kyle Mangold, who plays Noah. "You'll leave thanking yourself for going to see this show, because it feels so good."
"The Notebook" makes its Philadelphia debut at the Academy of Music on July 21 through August 2.
