Local singer/songwriter hits Musikfest stage opening for Darius Rucker

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Musikfest is underway right now in Bethlehem and a Montgomery County singer songwriter is once again making waves there.

"I opened for Darius Rucker, Mr. Hootie! And that show is incredible, amazing," said Kendal Conrad.

Country music singer/songwriter Kendal Conrad got the crowd warmed up ahead of headliner Darius Rucker on Sunday night on the Wind Creek Steel Stage.

"Bethlehem showed up for him and he was so nice," she said.

And Tuesday night, she headlined her own show at Musikfest.

"I play for an hour and a half. The energy is just really great and contagious," said Conrad.

The Pottstown native is no stranger to Musikfest. In fact , it was the scene of a pivotal moment in her music career.

"My big break that was singing with Keith Urban. It was in 2014 and I got to get up on stage and sing with him," she recalled. "It's like, you get the call, you're like 'wow, okay, maybe, maybe I do have something going on here'. It's a great confidence booster."

Conrad has since opened for over 50 country music artists, including Blake Shelton, Kane Brown, and Alabama.

Her current single, "Leader of the Pack," has more than one million streams. She calls it a personal anthem, a sort of survival song.

"I wrote this song to myself when I felt disappointed and defeated, and nothing was working in my life," she said.

And speaking of anthems, Conrad says she's on two missions right now.

"I want to sing the anthem 50 times this year, and I'm at 46," she said.

The second quest?

"I still want to do all 30 of the major league ballparks. I'm at 12, so I'm almost halfway," she said.

So, what stadium is number one on her bucket list?

"I feel like we need to manifest it. My holy grail anthem gig performance is the Phillies," she said.

We're putting it out there!

6abc is the official sponsor of Wind Creek Steel Stage.

Musikfest runs through August 10th.
