PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Exclusive new data shows Center City hotels scored big during the FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau says during the six matches held in the city, hotel revenue jumped more than 50% compared to this time last year.

The daily room rate climbed nearly 48% to an average of $367.

Hospitality leaders say those numbers reflect strong visitor demand, and an economic boost for the 80,000 people who rely on Philadelphia's tourism industry.

The bid to host FIFA began nine years ago, back in 2017.
