New mobile CPR kiosk placed at Independence Mall

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A potentially life-saving tool is now available for people who visit Philadelphia's Independence Mall.

The American Heart Association unveiled a new mobile CPR kiosk inside the Independence Visitor Center on Tuesday.

The interactive display explains how to administer hands-only CPR in the event of an emergency.

The kiosk launched in recognition of American Heart Month.

It's expected to remain there through celebrations for America's 250th anniversary.

Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in the U.S., with nearly 90% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests resulting in death, often because CPR is not started quickly.

Experts say hands-only CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival.

Organizers say this kiosk helps remove barriers to CPR education by offering fast, accessible training in a highly trafficked public space, empowering more people to act in an emergency.
