Parents plead for driver to come forward after teen hit by two cars

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Nineteen-year-old Madison Beal remains hospitalized after she was struck by two cars while skateboarding last Saturday in Philadelphia.

Her parents are asking the drivers involved to come forward.

"What do I do for the next week, month and year to try and put everything in place?" Travis Beal said, crying as he pleaded for people to come forward.

Beal said the day began normally. He took his daughter prom dress shopping, they got lunch, and later went skateboarding, something they do often. That evening, Madison and her brother were skateboarding near Rhawn and Algon streets in Rhawnhurst.

"The first car hit her and knocked her off her skateboard while she was in the street. Other cars tried to stop the car, but it kept going. Then a white SUV came and ran her over after the first black sedan," Beal recalled.

According to Beal, several people stopped to help after the crash. He later returned to the neighborhood to canvas for surveillance video because police do not yet have a vehicle description. Video he obtained captures brakes screeching and honking. In the footage, a black sedan drives by, followed by a white vehicle.

"Her injuries are very, very extensive," Beal said.

Doctors estimate Madison faces a 12- to 24-month recovery. The Roxborough High School senior remains in the hospital.

"There's little metal clips that hold the vertebrae in place without those; her neck is not strong enough to support," Beal said.

Despite her injuries, her parents describe Madison as determined and hardworking.

"My daughter is a unicorn. My daughter, she does her best every single day. Half of that hospital loves her," Beal said.

While FaceTiming their daughter, Madison shared a message, saying, "I do want to say something, I hope they catch whoever hit me because that was rude just leaving me."

The crash investigation division is investigating.

Madison's parents are asking any witnesses to contact authorities. As she continues her recovery, they say they fully plan on making sure she gets to prom next month.
