Philadelphia City Council considering 10-cent fee on paper bags

Philadelphia City Council will consider a bill to require a 10-cent fee on paper bags.

The proposal passed out of a legislative committee this week.

It wouldn't just impact grocery stores, but also businesses like hardware stores and boutiques.

However, there would be exemptions for bags without handles, including unwrapped prepared food from a food truck.

Philadelphia's plastic bag ban went into effect in 2021.
