Police chase ends in fiery crash on I‑95 in Fishtown

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A police chase ended in a fiery crash Friday on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia's Fishtown section.

Sources told Action News the driver, who was wanted in connection with multiple retail thefts, fled from police near Allegheny Avenue, leading to a pursuit.

During the chase, officials said the driver clipped another vehicle before getting on I-95 southbound.

Police said the suspect then crashed, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Chopper 6 video showed a charred vehicle at the scene along with a significant traffic backup.

A portion of I-95 South was temporarily shut down, though lane restrictions remained in place as crews continued to clear the wreckage.

Authorities said the driver was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
