PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Older residents across Philadelphia will soon receive an added layer of security at their front doors.
Mayor Cherelle Parker on Tuesday announced a new partnership with Ring that will supply 1,000 doorbell cameras to seniors, making the city one of the first in the country to pilot the initiative.
Parker detailed the collaboration during an event at the Firehouse Active Adult Center on Haverford Avenue.
Under the program, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging will receive the devices along with a lifetime subscription for each one.
In addition to the cameras, Ring will contribute a $20,000 donation to support PCA's mission.
City officials say the effort aims to help older residents feel safer at home while expanding access to technology that can deter crime and improve emergency response.
The program is expected to begin distributing devices in the coming weeks.
