Amtrak service from Philadelphia to Harrisburg could be cut amid SEPTA crisis

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Impending SEPTA cuts could also impact Amtrak.

It's because Amtrak would lose $71 million in annual payments from SEPTA, which leases the lines.

That would end if SEPTA cuts five regional rail lines, which are set to happen in January.

The cuts would impact services between Philadelphia and Harrisburg.

This comes with less than a week to find alternate transportation as SEPTA riders prepare for what is set to become a commuter crisis.

SEPTA will unleash its first phase of major service reductions on Sunday.

While ambassadors in yellow vests are out answering questions for riders, many are frustrated.

Dozens of people staged a sit-in at Republican state senator Joe Picozzi's office on Monday over the lack of work by Harrisburg lawmakers to find a solution.
