Police warn amid string of home burlgaries in Lower Merion Twp., Montgomery County

LOWER MERION TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Police in Lower Merion Township are warning residents to secure their homes against burglars.

Authorities say thieves recently targeted homes while the owners were away, in neighborhoods like Bryn Mawr and Wynnewood.

Investigators believe some of these crimes may be connected to a South American Theft organization.

"We're hitting the heart of the summer here, people are on vacation or they're traveling abroad," said Lt. Michael Keenan, with the Lower Merion Twp. Police Department. "These are the times you wanna be aware of what's going on at your house and making sure you're securing your house in the best way possible."

Police advise residents to use the department's Vacant House Program, so officers can check on their homes while they're out of town
