Reading murder suspect arrested before boarding plane in NJ to Dominican Republic

READING, Pa. (WPVI) -- Reading police nabbed a murder suspect moments before federal authorities say he was about to flee the country.

Federico Perez Polanco, 43, was taken into custody at an airport in New Jersey before boarding a flight to the Dominican Republic.

Police say he shot and killed a man in the 1400 block of North 5th Street in Reading early Sunday morning.

Authorities say Polanco then fled to New Jersey and booked the flight, which was scheduled to leave Sunday night.

He is currently awaiting extradition back to Pennsylvania.
