PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Zoo is mourning the death of its beloved red panda, Khumbie.

Khumbie was diagnosed with cancer during his annual exam.

Zoo staff says they had to make the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him.

Khumbie was 11 years old. Red pandas in the wild typically live between 8 to ten years.

He had been a part of the zoo for more than ten years and was a favorite among all for his calm and gentle demeanor.
