Revolutionary War-era home in South Jersey receives historical preservation

MOORESTOWN, N.J. (WPVI) -- A home in Moorestown, New Jersey that dates back to the Revolutionary War will now be preserved for future generations.

The "Witness House" along Kings Highway was acquired by the non-profit group Saving Historic Moorestown.

The house was built in 1742 and was home to Anne Cowperthwaite, a young woman from a prominent Quaker family.

She exercised her right to vote in 1807, during a brief period of time when the law allowed free property owners - male or female - to cast ballots.
