Road rage incident near school prompts safety scare

JAMISON, Pa. (WPVI) -- A frightening road rage incident came dangerously close to Jamison Elementary School in Bucks County on Monday afternoon, prompting swift action from school staff and raising questions about student safety.

Around 4:30 p.m., during the school's aftercare program, a motorcyclist reportedly drove over the grass and onto school property, heading toward a playground where children were playing. Staff members immediately intervened, preventing the driver from entering the play area.

"The motorcycle came on the side of the property on the grass, and our staff spotted him immediately," said Lauren Dowd, interim principal of Jamison Elementary. "They stopped him from entering the playground, where there were about 20 students playing."

According to Warwick Township police, the incident began on York Road when the driver of a car claimed a motorcyclist swideswiped his car. The situation escalated into a chase involving two motorcycles and one car, eventually leading one of the motorcycles onto the school grounds from Land Road.

School staff confronted the motorcyclist near the playground, concerned about the safety of the kids playing nearby.

"They train for keeping students safe, but you can't predict every situation," Dowd added. "In this situation, they did exactly what they should have done."

According to Dowd, the motorcyclist eventually fled the scene through nearby woods. Police have confirmed that all involved drivers have been interviewed, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

Parents and community members have expressed gratitude for the staff's response.

"When I saw those pictures, the first thing I thought was, 'Oh my God, those women jumped in front of the motorcycle,'" said Amanda O'Connor, who lives nearby and has children who attend the school.

"I'm just really thankful that we have people who work here at Jamison that interact with kids on a daily basis-people who would put themselves in potentially harm's way to make sure our kids are safe."
